In 1961, BC Hydro began construction of a dam on the Peace River in northern British Columbia, one of the highest earth fill hydroelectric dams in the world. When it was completed in 1968, the W.A.C. Bennett Dam forever altered the waters and lands along the Peace River, flooding the Tsek'ene Nation out of their traditional unceded territory.
